Exploring the Diaconate

The Institute for Diaconal Studies invites all men who feel the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit to attend an Exploring the Diaconate session. It is a time to pray, discuss and learn more about the discernment process and the formation program that aspirants and candidates pursue.

Buckets of Hope for hurricane victims

Hope’s on the Way will again respond to the hurricanes in recent months with a goal of 1,000 Buckets of Hope filled with14 cleaning items.

Following is a list of the 14 items.

• 2 liquid household cleaner 12 to 16 oz. cleaner to be mixed with water (NO BLEACH).

• 1 dish soap 16 to 28 oz. bottle any brand.

• liquid laundry detergent 2 – 25 oz. or 1 – 50 oz. bottle.

• 1 can of air freshener (aerosol or pump).

• 18 cleaning wipes or reusable wipes. (No terry cleaning towels).

• 7 sponges (no cellulose due to mold issue).

• 5 scouring pads ( no pads of any kind that will rust).

• 1 scrub brush- plastic or wooden handle (no toilet bowl or kitchen brushes).

• clothes line ( 2 - 50-foot or 100-foot cotton or plastic).

• 50 clothes pins.

• 2 pair of disposable waterproof gloves (rubber or plastic).

• 1 pair of work gloves- leather palms necessary.

• 24 heavy-duty trash bags (30 to 45- gallon size).

• 5 dust masks

NOTE: We find that most items are $1 at Dollar Tree stores.

For those wishing to make a monetary contribution to support the purchase of cleaning supplies, $30 is the average cost of a bucket with lid and 14 cleaning items.

The following retreats have been scheduled at the Cardinal Stritch Retreat House.


March 16-18: Deacon couples retreat led by Fr. Mike Ahlstrom
April 13-15: Deacon wives and widows retreat
April 27-29: Spanish couples retreat led by Fr. Ezequiel Sanchez
May 4-6: Deacon couples retreat led by Fr. Mike Knotek
May 18-20: Deacon retreat led by Fr. Kevin Hays
June 1-3: Deacon couples retreat led by Fr.Bob Miller
June 8-10: Spanish couples retreat led by Fr. Jamie Mueller

All retreats begin with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday and will conclude on Sunday before lunch.

The Office of the Diaconate has compiled a list of Spiritual Directors who are willing to meet with deacons and wives of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

When meeting with the Spiritual Director make sure to ask what the stipend for their service will be.

 Death Announcements Minimize
Death of Deacon George Lambert

We are saddened to announce the death of retired Deacon George Lambert, class of 1975. Deacon Lambert, 91, died on March 13, 2018.

Deacon Lambert is the father of Rev. Curtis Lambert, pastor of St. Alphonsus Ligouri.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, at St. Alphonsus Liguori Church, 411 North Wheeling Road, Prospect Heights.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, at St. Alphonsus Liguori. Internment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
