Vicariate Masses to welcome Archbishop Cupich

Here are the upcoming Vicariate Masses to welcome Archbishop Blase Cupich:

  • January 8: Vicariate V Welcome Mass at St. Rita Parish. 7 PM.
     
  • January 12: Vicariate III Welcome Mass at St. Aloysius Parish. 7 PM.
     

  • January 15: Vicariate I Welcome Mass at St. Anne (Barrington) Parish. 7 PM.
     

  • January 27: Vicariate VI Welcome Mass at St. Jude the Apostle Parish. 7 PM.
     
  • February 5: Vicariate I Welcome Mass at St. Mary of Vernon Parish. 7 PM.
     
  • February 9: Vicariate IV Welcome Mass at St. Domatilla Parish. 7 PM.
     

  • February 12: Vicariate II Welcome Mass at St. John Brebeuf Parish. 7 PM.

 

Fr. Matthew Compton to teach classes to Diaconate Community

    Father Matthew Compton will be offering a series of classes on the liturgy and homiletics to the Diaconate Community starting in January. These classes will be an extension of the Emmaus Program for the newly ordained.

    The classes for the Diaconate Commuity at large will be held at 5 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the Diaconate Office in Forest Park. To sign up for a class, call the Diaconate Office at (708) 366-8900

    Here is the schedule of classes

  • January 6: Theology of liturgy and the deacon's role 
     

  • February 3: The Spirituality of the Ordination Rite and Continuing to "Pray the Ordination"
     

  • March 3: Part I -- the Concelebrated Mass -- who does what, where and when, especially with a bishop.

    Part II: How and when to do a Communion Service
     

  • April 7: Homiletics I -- theory and practice
     
  • May 5: Homiletics II -- theory and practice
     
  • June 2: Benediction and other rites

 

Exploring the Diaconate

The Institute for Diaconal Studies will be holding Exploring the Diaconate sessions from September to February for men who want to learn more about the discernment process and the Diaconate formation program.

General information sessions held at 2 p.m. Jan. 25, Feb. 15 and March 8, University of St. Mary of the Lake Prist Center, Building 201 P

The Executive Committee of the Diaconate Council consists of Deacons Chuck McFarland, vice chairman, left; Dennis Robak, treasurer; George Kashmar, chairman; Bill Stearns, immediate past chairman; and John Gaughan, secretary. Also serving on the committee are Deacon Richard Hudzik, Vicar for Deacons; Fr. Michael Ahlstrom, Vicar Emeritus; and Deacon Dave Brencic, associate director.

Death of Carol Ciston

With sorrow, we report the death of Carol Ciston, wife of Deacon Bill Ciston (Class of 1991 and now incardinated in the Joliet Diocese). Carol died on December 13, 2014.

 Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 3 PM to 8 PM at St. Jude Church, 241 West Second Avenue, New Lenox, IL 60451. There will be a Vigil Service on Thursday, December 18 at 7 PM at St. Jude's.
 
 The Funeral Mass will be at St. Jude Church, 241 West Second Avenue, New Lenox, Illinois at 10 AM on Friday, December 19, 2014.

We are saddened to report that Deacon Thomas Hayden, 81, class of 2000, died Saturday, Dec. 13.

Notes of condolences can be sent to the Hayden Family c/o St. Hubert Church, 729 Grand Canyon St., Hoffman Estates.

Dcn. Hayden is survived by his children, Tom (Elaine) Hayden, Jeannie Hayden, Laurie (Rich Howard) Hayden, “adopted” father of Karen Moist, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
