Shrine of Christ's Passion tour

 

 Join us for a day-long pilgrimage to the Shrine of Christ's Passion in St. John, Ind., on Sunday, May 3. Deacons, wives and families are invited to join us.

A charter bus will leave from the St. Bernadine Church parking lot at 11:30 a.m. and will return by 5:30 p.m. The bus, which will have a bathroom, seats 55. Cost is $10 per person and includes lunch.

Use the attached flier to register for the trip. Make sure to indicate your lunch preference and send checks payable to the Diaconate Office to 816 Marengo, Forest Park, IL Questions call us at (708) 366-8900.

Archbishop to be Convocation keynote

   Archbishop Blase Cupich will be the keynote
  speaker at the 2015 Convocation on Saturday,
  June 13. Deacons and wives make sure to
  mark your calendars. The location is TBD.

Inviting candidates to the Diaconate

Have you invited any men in your parish to consider the Diaconate? Have you encouraged your pastor to seek out potential candidates? There is still time.

May 1 is the deadline for submission of applications to the Institute for Diaconal Studies' Aspirancy Path, which begins August 2015.

Applicants must be 31 to 62 years of age at the time of application.

Fr. Matthew Compton teaches classes to Diaconate Community

     Father Matthew Compton will be offering a series of classes on the liturgy and homiletics to the Diaconate Community in 2015y. These classes will be an extension of the Emmaus Program for the newly ordained.

    The classes for the Diaconate Commuity at large will be held at 5 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the Diaconate Office in Forest Park. To sign up for a class, call the Diaconate Office at (708) 366-8900

    Here is the schedule of classes

  • April 7: Homiletics I -- theory and practice
     
  • May 5: Homiletics II -- theory and practice
     
  • June 2: Benediction and other rites

Exploring the Diaconate

The Institute for Diaconal Studies will be holding Exploring the Diaconate sessions from September to February for men who want to learn more about the discernment process and the Diaconate formation program.

The Executive Committee of the Diaconate Council consists of Deacons Chuck McFarland, vice chairman, left; Dennis Robak, treasurer; George Kashmar, chairman; Bill Stearns, immediate past chairman; and John Gaughan, secretary. Also serving on the committee are Deacon Richard Hudzik, Vicar for Deacons; Fr. Michael Ahlstrom, Vicar Emeritus; and Deacon Dave Brencic, associate director.

Death of Elena Medieta, wife of Deacon Raul Mendieta

We are saddened to report the death of Elena Mendieta, wife of Deacon Raul Mendieta, class of 1972. Elena died March 4.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, from 3 to 9 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 West Belmont, Chicago, IL.

 The funeral Mass will be at St. Alfonsus Church, 1429 West Wellington, Chicago, IL, at 11 AM Monday, March 9.
