DEATH ANNOUNCEMENTS
 

We are saddened to announce the death of Deacon Matthews Vellurattil, class of 1999. Deacon Vellurattil died April 22. He was 69.

The wake will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church, 7800 Lyons St., Morton Grove.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at St. Ladislaus Church, 3343 N. Long Ave., Chicago.

Deacons are invited to vest in alb and white archdiocesan stole and sit as a body.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

Please keep the Vellurattil family in your prayers.

APRIL

Women’s retreat
Apr. 26-28, 7 p.m.

The Annual Women of the Diaconate Community Retreat will be held April 26-28 at Stritch Retreat House at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein. 

The retreat will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and close with Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The theme of this year’s retreat will be “The World is Bursting with Wonder and Wisdom: The Spiritual Practice of Paying Attention” and will be led by Barbara Mahany.

Discerning the call to the Diaconate

The Institute for Diaconal Studies will be hosting a series of Exploring the Diaconate sessions. It is a time to pray, discuss and learn more about the discernment process and the formation program that aspirants and candidates pursue. Men and their wives, if married, are invited to attend any of the sessions.

No registration is required.

The Association of Chicago Priests & Deacons honored Deacon Richard F. Hudzik, Vicar for Deacons, with the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Common Ground Award at its 52nd Annual Mardi Gras on March 3.
