Death Announcements

We are saddened to announce the death of Deacon William L. Sullivan, Sr., class of 1986. Deacon Sullivan died March 8, 2019. He was 80.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, March 23, at St. Barnabas Church, 10134 S. Longwood Drive, Chicago. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas.

Deacons are invited to vest in alb and white archdiocesan stole and be seated as a body.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

We are saddened to announce the death of Deacon Dale Barth, class of 2003. Deacon Barth died February 21, 2019. He was 75. 

Funeral services have already been held.

We are saddened to announce the death of Deacon Dennis McAlllister, class of 2000. Deacon Dennis died March 9, 2019. He was 72.

Visitation is Monday, March 11, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of the Brook Church, 3700 Dundee Road, Northbrook. The funeral Mass is Tuesday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Brook.

Deacons are invited to vest in alb and white stole and sit as a body.  May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

Discerning the call to the Diaconate

The Institute for Diaconal Studies will be hosting a series of Exploring the Diaconate sessions. It is a time to pray, discuss and learn more about the discernment process and the formation program that aspirants and candidates pursue. Men and their wives, if married, are invited to attend any of the sessions.

APRIL

Women’s retreat
Apr. 26-28, 2019

The Annual Women of the Diaconate Community Retreat will be held April 26-28 at Stritch Retreat House at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein. 

The retreat will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and close with Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The theme of this year’s retreat will be “The World is Bursting with Wonder and Wisdom: The Spiritual Practice of Paying Attention” and will be led by Barbara Mahany.

The Association of Chicago Priests & Deacons honored Deacon Richard F. Hudzik, Vicar for Deacons, with the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Common Ground Award at its 52nd Annual Mardi Gras on March 3.
