Communion Services in English and Spanish

As of the First Sunday of Advent, 2024, there is a newly-approved text for the liturgy popularly called a “Communion Service.” This revised text is in Holy Communion and Worship of the Eucharistic Mystery Outside Mass. Chapter One of that book is “Holy Communion Outside Mass” and this is the text in English that all deacons need to use as of December 1.

Previously, on this website, we had published a Communion Service in English approved for use in the Archdiocese of Chicago. That text is now superseded by the new ritual book noted above.

As the new ritual book is not yet translated into Spanish, we continue to advise use of the previously distributed Spanish text, a text that closely mirrors what has been approved by the Mexican Bishops’ Conference and has been approved for use in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
